African countries must add value to their exports – US Ambassador

Mr. Robert Jackson, the United States Ambassador to Ghana, said Africa must add value to their exports in order to move to the next phase of development and job creation.Speaking at the ECOWAS Industrial Summit Gala Dinner at the Banquet Hall in Accra, Mr. Jackson said there are tremendous opportunities for West Africa to develop and expand job intensive, value-added industries such as agribusiness, textiles and apparel

President Inaugurates Ultra-Modern GPHA Revenue Centre

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday tasked Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and other stakeholders to synchronise the taxes at the Ports to avoid duplications.He said the complaints about multiple taxes are getting higher thereby raising a lot of eyebrows among the business community in Ghana and beyond.

Tema Connection wins Customs Senior Staff Association Games

Tema Connection scored 30 points to win the maiden Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division) Senior Staff Association Fun Games held at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra on Saturday. Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Connection took the second position with 21 points whilst Customs Headquarters placed third with 20 points.

Ghana-India trade to increase from three to five billion dollars

Bilateral trade relations between Ghana and India is expected to increase from three billion to five billion dollars. Indian investments in Ghana have already exceeded one billion dollars. This came to light when the outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Jeeva Sagar, paid a farewell call on the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

Businesses calls for implementation of trade agreements

A coalition of business associations has renewed calls for the ratification and implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) to expedite trade and clearance of goods at the country's ports.The TFA, which is expected to be forwarded to Cabinet for onward submission to Parliament for ratification and implementation, is currently locked up at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Shippers appeal for ICT training

Mr Saeed Moomen, Chairman of the Northern Region Shippers Committee (NRSC), has appealed to West Blue and the Ghana Shippers Authority to consider offering ICT training to shippers to enable them transact businesses online. He said majority of the shippers in the country were not ICT literates and such training it would enable them to transact businesses online especially with the introduction of the Ghana Single Window (GSW).

GRA officials impound trucks with smuggled cooking oil

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has impounded three articulated trucks loaded with smuggled cooking oil in Kumasi. The 10,000 boxes of the seized items worth about GH 120 were bound for Coted Ivoire from Tema, through Elubo.

GSA urges strong support for Single Window project

The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has called for strong stakeholders support for the Single Window deployment to reduce the cost of doing business in the country. The implementation of the system, it said, would tremendously help to simplify procedures, enhance the clearance of goods and bring about transparency and integrity.
