Ghana’s growth prospects positive – IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with the Ghana government and how it is handling the economy.In a statement to announce the conclusion of its staff visit to Ghana, the team leader Annalisa Fedelino said: “Macroeconomic stabilization is ongoing. Growth prospects remain positive, supported by strong oil production. Investor confidence has improved, as indicated by a successful issuance of the Eurobond in May 2018. Inflation has subsided to below 10 percent. The government has stepped up structural reforms, particularly on public financial management and strengthening oversight over SOEs.”

Single Window saves Ghana $500m in two years - UGBS Report

The introduction of the national Single Window system has saved Ghana $500 million since its implementation in 2016, a University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) report has stated.The Minister of Business Development, Mohammed Awal, launched the report at a ceremony held in Accra last Friday.
Dubbed the “Ghana Business Development Review” (GBDR), the 20-page report discusses developments, performance, managerial and governance issues and major constraints on businesses covering the period 2015-2017.
The GBDR is a research-based report that provides regular reviews of development and performances of businesses across various sectors of the economy.

US Commerce secretary visits Ghana

US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross is expected to lead a delegation from the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa (PAC-DBIA) on a fact-finding mission to Ghana later this month.Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Gilbert Kaplan, will head the delegation on stops in Ethiopia, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as accompany Secretary Ross in Ghana.

Customs engages stakeholders on redesigning paperless export process

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and its partner agencies including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority have met with stakeholders in the export sector to discuss measures that would produce a flawless flow in the paperless design for export.This follows the initiative of the Director General of GPHA, Paul Ansah, of augmenting the potential of the export trade in Ghana.

Government to review paperless port system – Bawumia

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has announced government’s decision to review operations of the paperless port system to bring about more efficiency, improve revenue collection and rein-in corruption.He said from July 01, the number of agencies undertaking joint inspections at the ports will be reduced from 16 to three – Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Single Window showcased on world stage

Ghana was among over 75 countries which took part in this year’s World Customs OrganiSation (WCO) Information Technology Conference and Exhibition held in Lima, Peru.The conference, which had over 500 participants, gave Ghana the opportunity to showcase to the world how the country is implementing its National Single Window at its ports.The 3-day event, which was held from June 6 to 8, 2018, brought together Customs of the World – including representatives of private sector and international organisations – to find lasting solutions using new technologies for the benefit of trade and international security.

Customs destroys over 1000 illegally imported mattresses

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has set ablaze over 1,000 seized mattresses.The exercise was carried out under strict supervision of the National Security and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at the Kpone landfill site.

Edward Osei appointed Acting Director General of GPHA

The Director of Tema Port, Mr Edward Osei has been appointed as the acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).A letter signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President, dated June 6, 2018 said Mr Osei should act until a substantive Director-General has been appointed by the President.
