Ghana’s exports to the European Union (EU) market would enjoy duty-free and quota-free access under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).This was contained in a joint communique issued after the Ghana-EU Interim Economic Partnership Agreement (iEPA) maiden meeting in Accra, on Wednesday.It said under the EPA, it would provide all Ghana’s exports, agricultural or manufactured products to the EU market duty-free and quota-free, while Ghana would gradually and partially liberalise imports from the EU.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has commenced a nationwide training of staff of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to enable them undertake their mandate in ensuring compliance with Rules of Origin under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).This follows the ratification of the interim EPA between Ghana and the European Union (EU).

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has destroyed large quantity of seized unwholesome and smuggled goods. These included 13,776 cans of soft drinks and 5,038 packets of assorted cigarettes.They were disposed of at the Kaase dumping site and present were officials from the Environmental Protection Agency, Trade and Industry Ministry and the security agencies.

The Ministry of Finance has begun the process to decouple the government's human resource setup from its payroll system as it moves to integrate the electronic payment system in its settlement drive. The Finance Minister, Mr Seth Terkper, said that at the media launch of the Ghana National Single Window Strategic Action Plan in Accra on June 15.

The Trade Related Assistance and Quality Enabling (TRAQUE) Programme is to build the capacities of officials of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The training would enable the officials to apply the rules of origin as specified in the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).Mr Ignacio Burrull, the Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Ghana, announced this at the 5th TRAQUE Steering Committee Meeting, in Accra.
