Government suspends UNIPASS takover of Single Window System

The Economic Management Team (EMT) has directed the Ministry of Trade and Industry to immediately suspend the January 1, 2019 single window system takeover by CUPIA of Korea Customs Service and Ghana Link Network Service Limited. The decision, which was taken on December 18, 2018 and communicated to the ministries of Trade and Finance, is to ensure that issues regarding the takeover of operations at the country's ports are addressed.A letter to that effect was signed by the Secretary and member of the EMT at the Vice-President's Secretariat, Professor Joe Amoako-Tuffour, and copied to the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr Kofi Nti.

Single Window showcased on world stage

Ghana was among over 75 countries which took part in this year’s World Customs OrganiSation (WCO) Information Technology Conference and Exhibition held in Lima, Peru.The conference, which had over 500 participants, gave Ghana the opportunity to showcase to the world how the country is implementing its National Single Window at its ports.The 3-day event, which was held from June 6 to 8, 2018, brought together Customs of the World – including representatives of private sector and international organisations – to find lasting solutions using new technologies for the benefit of trade and international security.

The long, winding road to the paperless ports

After a successful pilot of the paperless initiative at the ports, the country has officially begun the full implementation of the initiative, starting with the clearance of imported goods.The process, which commenced yesterday, saw the existing manual processes of clearing cargo being automated as part of an over-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in May 2017, announced a three-pronged policy of ensuring paperless processes, joint mandatory inspection on containers by all relevant agencies and the removal of customs barriers along transit corridors effective September 1, 2017 as part of reforms aimed to eliminate bureaucratic procedures in the trade supply chain.

Ghana National Single Window to complement existing platform

The goal of the Ghana National Single Window (GNSW) platform is to provide an interface to existing customs management systems and not to replace, as many people envisage, officials of West Blue Consulting have said. According to the General Manager of the company, Mr Aminu Uthman, the project being spearheaded by West Blue was to provide a single platform which would serve as an interface for existing systems as part of efforts aimed at reducing paper-based processes and further eliminate the duplication of date and multiple submission of documents for port clearance processes.

GUTA E-ZONE office inaugurated

The Ghana Union of Traders Association, in partnership with West Blue Consult on Thursday inaugurated an E-Zone office to pave the way for traders to have unlimited access to trade information.The office space would serve as a place where traders can walk in at any time to make use of the innovative technology which would shape and align them with the ease of doing business.Dr Barima Nana Kweku Ofori, GUTA President, said the launch of the E-Zone office is a way of facilitating the clearance procedures at the ports as well as providing first-hand information on trade transactions to traders.

WTO urges public-private collaboration for effective implementation of TFA

Shippers in Ghana to pay for services via mobile money

Shippers can now effect payment for services rendered to them in the clearance chain via mobile money, online as well as card payment and in-branch payment.
This is being facilitated by WestBlue consulting, technical partners of the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.This is expected to inject some level of efficiency in port operations. The e-payment platform will among others benefits totally remove the element of corruption through the human interface where money exchanges hands.
