The political will and the right governance framework instituted at the country’s ports has begun yielding positive results as the (customs) division of the Ghana Revenue Authority exceeded its revenue target for last year following significant improvement in the processes at the ports.

Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says its revenue generation has increased after the successful implementation of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Reporting System (PAARS).Albert Kurugu, Senior Revenue Officer, Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, who made this known at a workshop on Single Window in Accra, said revenue mobilized by Customs Division in 2015 increased by 1.66 percent.

West Blue, operators of the Single Window Project, has begun the implementation of an innovative payment system that would reduce bureaucracies and ease the cost of doing business at the country’s ports.The payment platform is to enable importers and stakeholders to expedite the clearing regime at the ports and therefore, reduce the turnaround time and the cost of doing business.

A report on the single window system at the ports has revealed successful operational activities that are making various processes at the ports easier and more effective. This was after customs had successfully taken over the activities of the Destination Inspection Companies (DICs) on September 1, 2015, using the Pre-Arrival Assessment Reporting System (PAARS) as their main tool.

Importers and Exporters at the Tema Port have embraced the Single Window System introduced by the government for trade facilitation at the Port. When Radio Ghana visited the Port area on Tuesday September 1, importers and exporters were seen going about their usual duties to clear their goods.
